Content Description

The UNO AAUP Records consist of meeting minutes, newsletters, and organizational records extending from 1941-1989. Also included are court pleadings and transcripts created during the UNO AAUP’s efforts to obtain recognition from the University of Nebraska Board of Regents as the collective bargaining agent for the UNO faculty. The collection also holds recordings pertaining to grievances that addressed gender inequity in pay for UNO faculty.

Scope and Contents The papers consist of correspondence and radio transcripts created during Hollenbeck’s career with the NBC and the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS). There are a few broadcasts from American Broadcasting Company (ABC). The programs include special broadcasts, along with Hollenbeck’s “War Journal,” “CBS Views the Press,” and “You are There.” Many of these were produced during World War II. An excerpt of the transcription of an oral history interview with a partially identified retired doctor who was a witness to the lynching of Will Brown in 1919. Dr. Moritz was a medical student in Omaha and recounts traveling with classmates on the streetcar to downtown Omaha. He also referenced the murder of a Black man who had been on the streetcar with him and his classmates when he got off the streetcar in downtown Omaha.
