Scope and Contents This small photo album contains photographs documenting the experiences of Afghan freedom fighters as well as a small number of images of refugees. The first section of photographs in the photo album is titled "Images of War" with photos taken by Sayed Ehsanullah in Nangarhar in 1987. The title page indicates Ehsanullah was a student of American photographer and author Bruce Richardson. Weapons identified on the title page include PR-D machine gun, SA-7, shoulder-air missile, RPG7, and AK47....

Content Description

The collection of photographer and author Bruce Richardson includes photographs, correspondence, manuscripts and publications, and other material related to Afghanistan, especially, the Soviet-Afghan War, beginning in the 1980s. Prior to his death, Richardson donated photographs and books to the collection at various times. For example, prior to October 2012, Richardson donated 13 high-quality photographs that document the later years of the Soviet war in Afghanistan.

Scope and Contents U.S. Congressmen, Senator S.I. (Samuel Ichiyé) Hayakawa and Representative Robert K. Dornan, taped June 12, 1981, open and close this program which includes the 26 min. film: Afghanistan 1980, produced by the Committee for a Free Afghanistan for American distribution. The film documents the beginnings of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the international reactions to the invasion, the influx of Afghan refugees into Pakistan, and the civilian casualities resulting from the invasion....
