Scope and Contents The Meriweather letters cover Captain Gilmore Meriweather’s voyage overseas to Australia and India. The 340th Bomb Group had arrived in North Africa by April, 1943, and apparently remained there during the whole period of the correspondence. Meriweather describes the voyage, the reactions of the Australians to U.S. troops, sandstorms and the end of the campaign in North Africa. Scope and Contents The photo postcards were produced by the Hispanic Society of America in the 1920s as curators traveled throughout Latin America, Portugal, and Spain.The images document places, culture, landmarks, industry, and daily life. Both rural and urban scenes are included. Each postcard contains brief information about the location, but none of the photographs are dated. Those taken in Spain were photographed by E.M. Newman.

Several three-dimensional objects are found in the collection, including an engraved cigarette holder inscribed to Dr. Harry L. Weaver for his service as faculty adviser and an Innocent society pin.
