Helen Dawson Shelley collected the banknotes and coins during her tour of duty in the American Red Cross. The items include both banknotes and coins.

Biographical / Historical
Helen “Sue” Dawson Shelley worked for the American Red Cross during World Wwar II. Her family resided in Seattle, Washington. She married James A. Shelley on Feb. 15, 1947. Shelley, born in Lincoln, Nebraska, graduated from the University of Nebraska with a BA in 1942 and received a MA in 1975. He began his tour in the U.S. Army in spring of 1943, spending time in India and southwestern China until October 1945. Helen died in 1993 and James died in 2009.
