Biographical / Historical

Doctor Frederick Sweeney served as Captain in the United States Army Medical Corps. He met Willa Cather during the period she spent in Jaffrey, New Hampshire. Sweeney shared his personal diary with Cather and his personal recollection of World War I provided her with much insight into the war experience. Cather used the diary as research for her Pulitzer Prize novel One of Ours.
