Scope and Contents

The papers consists of research notes, articles and newspaper clippings, designs and patterns, and correspondence about a range of topics including Civil War and Union quilts; enslaved and abolitionist quilters including Harriet Tubman, Ona Judge, Martha Ann Ricks, and Harriet Jacobs; quilters related to the Underground Railroad such as Catherine Coffin and Delia Webster; and printing techniques. The papers also include a collection of antique fabric samples from Doris Haake Majesky sent to Susan West Sommerlath, and a scrapbook about quilts.
