Scope and Contents

The records consist mostly of slides from W. Cecil Steward's travels around China and Europe, and projects at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The collection also includes photographs and negatives of Steward's travels and architectural projects; JISC reports, proposals, mission, programs, and plans; papers, lectures, and speeches by Steward; project files; publications; history of JISC and Joslyn Castle; grant files; audiovisual materials mostly related to projects and travel; and digital media mostly consisting of project files and JISC records.

Biographical / Historical

The Joslyn Institute for Sustainable Communities (JISC) was founded in 1996 by W. Cecil Steward (d. 2021). Steward was dean emeritus and emeritus professor of architecture and planning at the University of Nebraska College of Architecture, and served as the President and CEO of JISC. JISC focuses on the built environment to promote sustainable development. Today, JISC works independently from the University in its advocacy and modeling of sustainable design and development.
