Great American Sandhills, Photographs
Scope and Content:
The photographs, in all formats, document the Sandhills region in Nebraska between 1979-2020, particularly natural landscapes that incorporate sandhills, grasslands, wetlands, and lakes. Multiple photographs were taken at the same site. Selected photographs illustrate life on Sandhills ranches, their owners, and a long-horn cattle drive in November 2000. Auctions and farm sale photos may include owners, livestock, or equipment for sale. Photos may include birds, such as herons or cormorants, plant specimens, blowouts, dunes, and mixed-grass features distinct to the Sandhills region. All locations are in Nebraska, unless noted.
The photographs include color slides, color negatives, and color and black/white prints taken with an analog 35 mm camera between 1979-2005. The slides are generally arranged by slide number and date. Dates, events, locations, and topics listed derive from original captions on the slides or prints.
There are about 6320 digital photos in jpeg format from about 2010-2020. These are arranged alphabetically by the original digital file title. Selected digital photos include content that is similar to the slides and prints. For example, there are both slide and digital photos of lakes, cattle and longhorns, lakes, and wildlife management areas. Selected contents have been added to folder titles, such as those labeled by month.
