Nebraska Schoolmasters Club, Records
Scope and Contents
The Nebraska Schoolmasters Club records include correspondence, memoriam, meeting minutes, treasurer's reports, membership directories and program announcements generated by the club from 1916-1958. The work of the Necrology, Membership and Auditing Committees are strongly represented. The correspondence files are largely composed of daily business documents of the Schoolmasters Club, particularly letters relating to local meeting arrangements, due notices, meeting absence notes, member death notices, and membership nominations. Memoriam are included in the correspondence. Annual treasurer's reports are appended with meeting minutes. These documents highlight the difficulty the club had in keeping its membership rosters and financial books in order. Notably absent from the files are materials related to the club's place at the center of controversy about the practice and teaching of education in Nebraska during these years.
