Scope and Contents

The materials in this collection relate primarily to Schramm's career in economic geology, his business investments, and his activities as a faculty member at the University of Nebraska. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence, which relates to oil and mining in the United States and Latin America. Letters from Schramm's former students contain information on their work in the oil and mining industries as well as military service and personal lives. Also included are correspondence and reports related to Schramm's work with various oil and mining companies and to his personal investments including land and bond purchases. One noteworthy correspondent outside Schramm's field of work was playwright Fred Ballard, who discusses his work and life in letters to Schramm. A few of Schramm's manuscripts, biographical sketches, and materials related to teaching may be found in the collection. Photographs in the collection include scenes of farms, hunters, and mines.
