Biographical / Historical
Beginning in 1941, the Junior Divison and Counseling Service began as an academic program for new students attending the university. Each student enrolled in the division for a period of two semesters and met classes and grade requirements prior to advancing to colleges or programs. Faculty, advisors, or counselors provided individualized help to students through counseling, help on reading and study skills, or information on occupations. Nels A. Bengston, served as the first dean for the Division, between 1941-1949, and as emeritus in 1949, and 1951. Warren Robert Baller served as acting dean in 1949, 1950, and 1952. The Division operated until about 1957.
