Scope and Contents
Hilda Raz's professional life as a writer, editor, and educator are represented in the collection materials. Correspondence and manuscripts comprise about half of the collection. The remainder relates primarily to Raz's work as an educator, including her work as a professor at UNL and as a lecturer at conferences and workshops. Throughout the collection, quotation marks indicate original folder titles, and italics are used for titles of works.

Biographical / Historical
Hilda Raz's literary career encompasses work as a poet and essayist, editor of the literary magazine Prairie Schooner, and English professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL). Hilda Raz started working at the Prairie Schooner in 1969 as an editorial assistant. She moved into the role of contributing editor in 1972 and then as poetry editor beginning in 1976. After working as the publication's acting editor, 1980-1981 and 1985, Raz went on to become the editor-in-chief from 1987 to 2010.
A professor in English at UNL from 1990-2010, Raz was named the first Luschei Professor and Editor in the Department of English in 1993. In addition to teaching at UNL, Raz has participated in numerous writing conferences, panels, and workshops throughout the nation. She received the Stanley W. Lindberg Award for Excellence in Literary Editing in 2010.
