Scope and Contents

The records include correspondence, memos, reports, and similar documents created or collected by John Muehlbeier during his service as secretary of the Great Plains Agricultural Council (GPAC). The same records are included in for GPAC Executive Committee. The records discuss drought, farm credits, water pollution, water sheds, and related agricultural topics. Correspondence related to the summer meetings held each year by the Council dealt with meeting dates, locations, agendas, activities, and participation ideas.

Biographical / Historical

The Great Plains Agricultural Council changed its name from the Great Plains Council in 1954-1955. The Council operated under a memorandum of agreement between agencies in the Department of Agriculture, agricultural experiment stations, and extension services of states in the Great Plains. The council focused on agriculture in the region. John Muehlbeier served as secretary of the Great Plains Agricultural Council. He maintained an office in the Dairy Building, on the East Campus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
