Commencement Committee, Faculty Senate Records
Scope and Contents
The Commencement Committee records consist of materials generated by or collected by the Committee in the course of its annual commencement preparations. The files cover the years 1949-2019 and are arranged chronologically, with some multi-year folders covering issues or preparations under consideration for more than one year. The records include minutes, reports, correspondence, commencement instructions, seating plans, selected commencement programs, newspaper clippings, and some photographs. Documented committee work includes the change of venue for annual commencements from the University Coliseum to Pershing Auditorium, constitution of the commencement Marshall Corps, the University's 1969 Centennial Commencement, and efforts to personalize commencement exercises.

Biographical / Historical
The Faculty Senate Commencement Committee is responsible for all commencement arrangements. Over the years, the committee gathered input from students, faculty, staff, and administrators about policies and traditions related to the University's commencement activities and forwarded recommendations to the university chancellor and the Commencement Committee.
