Scope and Contents The Meriweather letters cover Captain Gilmore Meriweather’s voyage overseas to Australia and India. The 340th Bomb Group had arrived in North Africa by April, 1943, and apparently remained there during the whole period of the correspondence. Meriweather describes the voyage, the reactions of the Australians to U.S. troops, sandstorms and the end of the campaign in North Africa. Scope and Contents The collection consists of a manuscript titled "Amelia" written by Hazel Perin Reeder in 1976.  Part reminiscence and part narrative biography, the manuscript focuses on Reeder’s grandmother, Amelia Sophie Roubleau Perin.  Born in 1834 in St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana, Amelia was the daughter of a prosperous sugar cane planter.  She married civil engineer Samuel Perin in 1850.  They moved to Iowa, living in various locations, and homesteaded in Custer County, Nebraska, in the 1870s. ...

Scope and Contents One manuscript leaf from Cape Cod originally tipped in to volume 1 of the manuscript edition of The Works of Henry David Thoreau (PS 3040 F06 1905, vol. 1-10, in Love Stacks).  The work was published in 1865 after Thoreau’s death.  The manuscript is one leaf, two pages, handwritten.

Scope and Contents The collection consists of the German typescript of Hilda Vitzthum's biography as well as an English translation of the first chapter. Also included in the collection are publication announcements for her biography and a few brief biographical sketches. Vitzthum's biography describes her experiences as a communist living in both Austria and the Soviet Union and her struggle to survive eight years in a forced labor camp in Siberia.

Hispanic Society Latin America, Photographs

Scope and Contents The photo postcards were produced by the Hispanic Society of America in the 1920s as curators traveled throughout Latin America, Portugal, and Spain.The images document places, culture, landmarks, industry, and daily life. Both rural and urban scenes are included. Each postcard contains brief information about the location, but none of the photographs are dated. Those taken in Spain were photographed by E.M. Newman.
