Scope and Content
This collection contains primarily historical records of the Athletics Department, including: correspondence, reports, programs, photographs and ephemera compiled by a multitude of contributors over many decades.
The series contained in this collection are as follows: Series 1: Baseball (1906-1991); Series 2: Basketball (1911-2007); Series 3: Bowling (1964-1967); Series 4: Cheerleading and Spirit Squad (1957-[before 2010]); Series 5: Committees (1916-2008); Series 6: Cross Country (1959-2004); Series 7: Football (1909-2016); Series 8: General Athletics (1909-2018); Series 9: Golf (1994-1999); Series 10: Intramural (1965-1992); Series 11: Memorabilia (1906-2019); Series 12: Softball (1982-1990); Series 13: Swimming (1966-2000); Series 14: Tennis ([before 2020]); Series 15: Track and Field (1950-2006); Series 16: Volleyball (1976-2019); and Series 17: Wrestling (1973-2003).

Arrangement
When it was present, an effort was made to retain organization unless it was impossible to determine original order. If a file lacked a title or the one present was informationally inaccurate, one was assigned by the Archivist. Files were then arranged by type. An excel-formatted file list is available in addition to this finding aid.
Custodial History
The material in this collection was slowly accumulated from 1906 forward, passing through many hands until it was acquired by staff at Calvin T. Ryan Library and collected under the general name "Athletics" or under files names of various athletic activities. The records remained unprocessed until 2021.
Acquisition Information
This collection was gradually acquired by Calvin T. Ryan Library and Archives and Special Collections across many decades. Some of it was previously indexed but as whole it was never processed until 2021.
Processing Information
This collection was primarily processed by Jenny Haddon between October-December, 2021. As of 2022 the "Memorabilia" series remains unprocessed.
