Content Description

Description provided by the seller. "String-tied photo album measuring 9" x 11" with a dog illustration on the front board. Near fine with faint spotting and some toning, with a few photos loose but present. An album containing 90 black and white photographs of a 1938 vacation to numerous United States cities via the Union Pacific Railroad and their adjourning bus route, extensively captioned and wonderfully organized. The album opens with a list of the cities visited and a color Union Pacific Railroad route map. It is separated into sections by city and includes promotional cards from the railroad. Beginning in Columbus, Ohio the travelers venture through St. Louis, Kansas City, Denver, Colorado Springs, Salt Lake City, Cedar Breaks, Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon, Zion Canyon, Boulder Dam, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Reno, Cheyenne, Omaha, Chicago, and finally back to Columbus. One photograph from the Grand Canyon leg shows a young Shirley Temple with the caption "visiting the Grand Canyon for the first time." There are many great views of the sights of the trip including Boulder Dam, Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, and inside the Grand Canyon, among others. 'The land surrounding the dam site is desert but where the water touches it immediately become fertile. Lake Mead has been stocked with game fish and some of the bass caught there are of record sizes.'"
