The papers of John and Eupha Shanly is composed of correspondence, newsletters and notices from the U.S. consulate in Afghanistan, journals or diaries of John Shanly, drafts of books by Eupha Shanly, research material about Afghanistan, news clippings, a few items from a Christian church in Kabul for Americans, a small number of photographs, and other material.

The collection is open for research use. Manuscript collections and archival records may contain materials with sensitive or confidential information that is protected under federal or state right to privacy laws and regulations, the Nebraska Public Records Statutes (Neb. Collection has been arranged and described.
Custodial History
The Shanly collection was given to the UNO Center for Afghanistan Studies prior to 2015, where it was stored in one of the center's storage rooms for an undetermined number of years. The collection was transferred to Criss Library Archives & Special Collections on August 30, 2016.
Separated Materials
Magazines and books were also received from the donor and will be reviewed for retention as part of the Arthur Paul Afghanistan Collection.
