The ledger of William C. Johnson of Rensselaer County, New York documents accounts for his 19th century store. Accounts are listed for many individuals including John King, Russell and Hale, James Keeler, John Stillwell, Peter Williams, Lemuel Tupper, S. Perry, Hoffman and Glass, W. Wetmore, Welder and Hastings, Norton and Sons, Henry Waller, the ship or sloop Columbia, and others. Items sold include fabric, ribbon, white cotton hose, florentine, bombaret, cold sewings, black raffeta ribbon, buff gloves, dark gingham, imitation shawls, pink furniture, American gingham, drab cord, blue bandanas, fancy plaid shawls, surge silk, horn combs, book muslin, dark vesting, black beaver gloves, Bedford cord, horn buttons, ridicule snaps, furniture binding, worsted tippets, Russia diapers, knitting needles, fishhooks, pen knives, flat irons, sperm oil, borax, lamp wicks, camphor, knives, forks, tongs, and others.

The ledger contains approximately 270 pages of accounts. The first few pages were removed and are not accounted for, but the entries begin with a page numbered one.
