Orville Menard Papers
Scope and Contents
The Orville Menard collection includes his diplomas from OU and the University of Nebraska, a program from the 1961 commencement ceremony, a photograph from 1954 of three men playing hockey, and a white "Omaha U. / OUampi" t-shirt. University Archives staff added a copy of his obituary from the time of Menard's death in January 2014.
In 1991, Menard offered audio recordings of 28 oral history interviews he completed in 1979-1980, some with Prof. Harl Dahlstrom, to the library. Also included were 15 KIOS radio station program recordings of "Seymour Smith's Omaha."
New material added June 8, 2017: This addition includes artifacts from the years Orville Menard was an OU undergraduate student; notes from his extensive research into Omaha political history; newspaper clippings; correspondence; copies of his publications; awards and honors presented to him by UNO; and a small number of items generated through his friendship with U.S. Senator and Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, who had been one of his students.
