Miscellaneous Map Collection
Scope and Contents
The Miscellaneous Map Collection is comprised of 20 maps from various sources including both published, tracings, and reproductions. The majority depict the City of Omaha, Nebraska, and surrounding region, including Douglas County, Sarpy County, and the Papillion Creek and its tributaries. Individual maps of Iowa, Kansas, the Mississippi and Missouri Region, and the Oregon Trail are also included. Most of the maps are from the 1930s through the 1970s. Several are undated. The earliest map in the collection (Mississippi and Missouri Region) dates to 1819, while the latest (Missouri Riverfront Corridor Land Use Plan) dates to 1985. The collector of these maps and the reason they were gathered together are unknown.

The collection is open for research use. Manuscript collections and archival records may contain materials with sensitive or confidential information that is protected under federal or state right to privacy laws and regulations, the Nebraska Public Records Statutes (Neb. Rev. Stat. §§ 84-712 through 84-712.09), and other relevant regulations. Confidential material may include, but is not limited to, educational, medical, and personnel records. Researchers are advised that the disclosure of certain information pertaining to identifiable living individuals represented in this collection without the consent of those individuals may have legal ramifications (e.g., a cause of action under common law for invasion of privacy may arise if facts concerning an individual's private life are published that would be deemed highly offensive to a reasonable person) for which the University of Nebraska Omaha assumes no responsibility.

0.5 Cubic Feet (1 box) : Maps are folded in box. One is tightly rolled. Some maps are torn or otherwise damaged. Recommend flattening and storing in map case when time and space allow.
