Scope and Contents

The Abattoir Editions Collection comprises the correspondence, manuscripts, proofs, forms, and other papers relating to the books published by the small letterpress Abattoir Editions, in Omaha, Nebraska. Materials are arranged by the name of the author whose work was published in Abattoir Editions, with notes in the inventory list as to the types of material available for that particular author (correspondence, proofs, manuscript, etc.).

New material added 2016-02-22: Photoengraved blocks and book illustrations for six books published by Abattoir Editions. The books are: Weaving the Sheets, Denise Brady, artist, Judith Root, author; The Ceremony, Weldon Kees, artist and author; Waiting in the Bone and Other Poems, Keith Achepohl, artist, Radcliffe Squires, author; A Thousand Little Things and Other Poems, Keith Achepohl, artist, Norman Dubie, author; "Fourteen Weeds," Keith Achepohl, artist and author; The House That Jack Built or A Portrait of the Artist as a Sad Sensualist, James Brunot, artist, John Logan, author. One folder contains art proofs by Harry Duncan. The addition also contains proof pages for ten books published between 1975 and 1983.

Materials were donated to the Criss Library by Harry Duncan, founder of Abattoir Editions, prior to 1997.

New material added 2016-02-22: Material was stored in the book arts lab in the Weber Fine Arts Building prior to being transferred to the Criss Library by Bonnie O'Connell.
