Scope and Contents

The Jack Newton Papers comprise the paper files of Dr. John Milton "Jack" Newton, longtime professor of psychology (1960-1999) who served as Dean of Arts and Sciences (1974-1994) at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. These file folders, envelopes, and loose papers have not yet been further arranged or described.



New material added 2010: "Random Memories of People & Experiences at OU/UNO," written by College of Arts & Sciences Dean Emeritus Jack Newton in December 2009. Also included are copies of correspondence from 1974-1979.



New material added 2015-08-14: The accession includes confidential material related to a personnel matter (access to this material is restricted) and personal material related to a semester-long study abroad in Austria, a group Grand Canyon rafting trip, and an investment club.



New material added 2016-12-14: The addition to the Jack Newton Papers includes letters sent to Prof. Newton when he became Dean of Arts and Sciences at UNO and a photo album from Newton’s trips across Nebraska with Japanese students studying at UNO. The materials date from circa 1975 through circa 2000.



New material added 2018-02-08: The addition to the papers of Jack Newton includes messages from colleagues to Dean Jack Newton when he retired from UNO in 1999 and recipes collected by Newton.

The collection is open for research use EXCEPT for one folder of material related to a University of Nebraska at Omaha personnel matter, pending review by Archives & Special Collections staff. Manuscript collections and archival records may contain materials with sensitive or confidential information that is protected under federal or state right to privacy laws and regulations, the Nebraska Public Records Statutes (Neb.
