Bruce Richardson Papers
Content Description
The collection of photographer and author Bruce Richardson includes photographs, correspondence, manuscripts and publications, and other material related to Afghanistan, especially, the Soviet-Afghan War, beginning in the 1980s. Prior to his death, Richardson donated photographs and books to the collection at various times. For example, prior to October 2012, Richardson donated 13 high-quality photographs that document the later years of the Soviet war in Afghanistan.

Custodial History
Bruce Richardson has donated hundreds of photographs and transparencies to the Arthur Paul Afghanistan Collection over multiple decades. The earliest donations of photographs created by Bruce Richardson do not have comprehensive provenance information, but were received prior to 2015. One of the transfers is documented in a UNO press release (October 6, 2012), when Richardson donated 13 high-quality photographs that document the later years of the Soviet war in Afghanistan. After his death, Shirley Richardson, his wife, donated 3 cubic feet of material as well as additional books.
Existence and Location of Originals
Selected photographs from Bruce Richardson's collection have also been included in the photographic archives of Bibliotheca-Afghanica in Liestal, Switzerland.

Books were donated over the course of many years and can be found searching the library catalog.

The gift was made by the donor in honor of The People of Afghanistan.
