David and Kathy England Papers
Content Description
The David and Kathy England Papers document their engagement with several Omaha-area LGBTQ+ organizations when their son came out to them as a young man. The Englands were actively involved with and in some cases founding members of a number of Omaha area organizations and initiatives including PFLAG (Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays), Proud Horizons, ANGLE (Achieving New Gay & Lesbian Endeavors), National Coming Out Day, Pride Prom, and others. The England family also appeared on the early 1990s talk show Jane hosted by Sassy and Jane magazines founder and media personality Jane Pratt.
The England Papers include 3 boxes that include 7 series about the work the England's did. The series titles are: ANGLE, Jane Pratt Show, The Names Project Quilt, PFLAG, Proud Horizons, Resources and Clippings, and United Methodist Church Reconciliation.
The ANGLE series contains 3 folders involving National Coming Out Day, Omaha Pride Guides, and the annual ANGLE Recognition Banquet all ranging frok 1990-2012.
The Jane Pratt Show series contains 1 folder that holds ticket documentation and letters about the England's trip to New York to attend the show in 1992.
The Names Project Quilt series holds 9 folders about the national tour of the quilt called An Event in Thre Acts, a lesson guide and annual report, the 1990 Names Project Quilt display in Lincoln, NE, a list of names on the memorial quilt, two folders about the quilt display in Omaha, NE, two folders about the quilt display in Washington D.C. , and a quilt display handbook. The dates in this series are from 1989 to 1996.
The Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays series has 9 folders about the Equity for Our Invisible Minority conference, PFLAGE membership forms, 3 folders containing PFLAG newsletters ranging from 1988 to 1999, 2 newsletter registration folders ranging from 1990 to 1997, and 2 tax form folders from 1982 to 1997. The folders in this series have dates that range from 1982-2001.
The Proud Horizons series has 4 folders concerning awards presented to facilitators of the youth group, facilitator communications and a celebration of the youth group's 10 year anniversary, facilitator contracts and training, and the Pride Prom. The series has dates that range from 1991 to 2003.
The Resources and Clippings series contains 5 folders that holds information and resources used by PFLAG and Proud Horizons for their monthly meetings with dates ranging from 1977-2009.
The United Methodist Church Reconciliation series consists of 5 separate folders concerning Elizabeth and Robert Dorr, the trial of Reverend Gregory Dell, general information about the relationship between the church and homosexuality, and 2 folders about Reverend Jimmy Creech's trial.
