Scope and Contents

The Omaha Chamber of Commerce Records cover business and industry in Omaha, Nebraska, spanning the period from 1912 until 1979. The records include meeting minutes from various committees and bureaus, the Chamber's newsletter (1912-1941 as Journal, 1941-1956 as News Bulletin, 1959-2004 as Profile), photographs, negatives, slides, newspaper clippings, correspondence, pamphlets, books and journals collected and used by the Chamber, and files with information about various businesses, organizations, events and topics of Omaha commercial interest.

New material added April 4, 2018, includes photographic slides depicting Omaha growth and development, Omaha publicity books, photographs of Omaha history and development, video tapes in at least three formats, and a small variety of Chamber and Omaha publicity trinkets. These materials cover the period from 1924 through 2015.

The collection is open for research use. Custodial History

In 1990, Vicki Krecek of the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, donated the first portion of material to Criss Library. In 1995, the Chamber donated a larger portion of its archives, in conjunction with a microfilming project. Newer materials were to be transferred to Criss Library at five year intervals.

New material added April 4, 2018, included materials created, gathered, and stored by the Omaha Chamber of Commerce, 1924-2015. Due to a move of Chamber headquarters, officials decided to transfer these materials to Criss Library Special Collections. The agreement to transfer these materials to UNO was signed by David Brown, President and CEO of the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce. The physical transfer was facilitated by Jill Bruckner, Communications/Public Relations Manager of the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, in 2018.

New materials are donated by the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce to the Criss Library at five year intervals.

Existence and Location of Copies

Portions of the collection have been microfilmed and are available for use in Criss Library's microforms collection. The microform collection is located on the first floor of Criss Library and is available whenever the library is open. Selected books not authored by the organization, but transferred from the Omaha Chamber of Commerce offices have been cataloged and shelved in the Special Collections book collection.
