Scope and Contents

The Del Weber Papers comprise the files accumulated by Delbert Weber during his term as chancellor of the University of Nebraska at Omaha (1977-1997). The files include correspondence, reports, memos, meeting minutes, forms, and other print records of the operations of the University of Nebraska at Omaha as well as his service on community boards and community and a small amount of family material including audiovisual material. The paper files include material organized and described in folders by Weber or his staff members as well as a fair number of loose documents not organized in folders. The collection has not yet been arranged and described.

New material added 2016-03-15: This accrual includes1) Materials generated following Professor Weber’s announcement that he was retiring as UNO Chancellor; 2) Materials concerning the effort to secure a UNO College of Engineering; and 3) Miscellaneous, including correspondence, news clippings, and Blessed, a self-published memoir by Del Weber.

New material added 2016-09-09: This accrual includes a variety of materials, most of which were generated near the end of or shortly after Del Weber’s time as UNO Chancellor, including materials from the years Nancy Belck was Chancellor. Also included is materials related to the Weber Fine Arts Building, an Afghan choora dagger with sheath acquired during a visit to the Khyber Pass, selected materials from the UNO-UNL Engineering controversy of the mid-1990s, and materials documenting difficulties in the UNO Athletic program during the administraiton of Chancellor Nancy Belck. Included are Weber's written recollections of notable UNO events during his tenure including advocacy for the new fine arts building, men's hockey, and engineering as well as VHS videotapesand audiocassette tapes about the Weber family.

Custodial History

Materials were transfered to University Archives after Chancellor Weber's retirement in 1997.

New material added 2016-03-15: Del Weber was Chancellor of the University of Nebraska at Omaha from 1977 to 1997. These materials were gathered by Professor Weber during his years as chancellor, and in particular during the months prior to his retirement in 1997. He transfered the material to University Archives in March 2016.

New material added 2016-09-09: These materials were gathered by Professor Weber during his years as chancellor. He transferred the material to University Archives in September 2016.

Conditions Governing Access changed 2019-01-11: Del Weber originally donated these materials with the restriction that the collection be closed until after his death. Del Weber passed away on January 11, 2019, after which the collection was opened to researchers, with the exception of any portions of the collection related to Engineering, which will remain closed until after the death of Professor Bing Chen.
