Scope and Contents

The UNO College of Communication, Fine Arts and Media Records comprise primarily event programs from the Department of Music along with a small number of documents from the College of Fine Arts (predecessor of the College of Communication, Fine Arts and Media). The collection includes the Department of Music Concert and Recital Series volumes, 1982/1983 to the present (booklets or binders containing event programs occasionally accompanied by related lyric sheets, flyers, and newsletters); the Department of Music Events binders, 2005/2006 to the present (similar collections of programs, including a broader range of events than the Concert and Recital Series); the Spectrum Fall Focus on the Arts scrapbook, 1993 (programs, news clippings, calendars, newsletters, and correspondence relating to all College of Fine Arts programs in music, drama, and art), a concept proposal for a Performing Arts Center for Omaha Ballet, Omaha Symphony, Opera/Omaha, and the University of Nebraska at Omaha, 1987 (never built); and the College of Fine Arts Strategic Planning Task Force Report, 1985.

New material added 2017-11-29: Programs from April-September 2017 concerts, recitals, jazz camp, and other events hosted by the UNO School of Music. The programs are compiled and submitted on a regular basis to bodies such as ASCAP that control public performance rights and fees that must be paid by venues such as the UNO Strauss Performing Arts Center.

New material added 2018-02-22: Programs from October-December 2017 concerts, recitals, jazz camp, and other events hosted by the UNO School of Music. The programs are compiled and submitted on a regular basis to bodies such as ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC that control public performance rights and fees that must be paid by venues such as the UNO Strauss Performing Arts Center.

Mew material added 2019-08-08: Three-ring binders containing UNO School of Music concert/recital programs from 1977 to 2016.

New material added 2020-05-22: Programs from OU/UNO Department of Music performances, including the Town and Gown Orchestra, the Concert and Music Series, and the Youth Orchestra, from 1962 to 2000.

New material added 2021-07-15: Copies of all programs for UNO School of Music events from July 2018-June 2021 as prepared for BMI and SESAC. (7 volumes.)

New material added 2021-09-27: Two College of Fine Arts' Faculty Handbook circa early 1990s and the design schematics and volumes for bids for the construction of the Fine Arts Education Building (later named the Weber Fine Arts Building).

Custodial History

Transferred from the College of Communication, Fine Arts and Media (or possibly from the Department of Music within CFAM) to the Criss Library prior to 2014. Further accession details are incomplete or absent.

New material added 2017-12-21 and 2018-02-22: Programs compiled for ASCAP, transferred to University Archives from School of Music.

Mew material added 2019-08-08: These materials were uncovered during the remodeling of the UNO Strauss Performing Arts Center.

New material added 2020-05-22: Professor Kermit Peters acquired these programs during his years as an OU/UNO Professor of Music.

New material added 2021-07-15: Music programs compiled for BMI and SESAC, transferred from the School of Music by Barbara McCormack.

New material added 2021-09-27: Stored in the book arts lab for an unknown period of time before being transferred to Archives and Special Collections by Chelsea Herman. Received on September 27, 2021, by Claire Du Laney and Amy Schindler.
