Oliver Pollak Papers
Scope and Contents
The Oliver Pollak Papers comprise the research materials of Oliver Pollak, professor of history at the University of Nebraska at Omaha from 1974 through 2012.
The series Fifty Years of Teaching History at the University of Omaha, 1908-1957, comprises Oliver Pollak's research notes for the article "Fifty Years of Teaching History at the University of Omaha, 1908-1957," published in Journal of the West, volume 42, issue 3, Summer 2003. This series includes handwritten notes, photocopied articles with handwritten annotations, correspondence, OU faculty records, and a copy of the journal issue with the finished article. Research materials are arranged alphabetically by name of the faculty member who taught history at OU during the first fifty years of the institution's existence. Postmarks on envelopes containing research notes suggest that Pollak began research for this article in or before 1994. This series has not been arranged or described.
The series Nebraska Carnegie Libraries Research Materials comprises Oliver Pollak's research notes for his book A state of readers: Nebraska's Carnegie Libraries, published by J&L Lee Co., 2005. This series includes handwritten notes, photocopied articles with handwritten annotations, correspondence, and other materials. This series has been partially arranged, including some bibliography resources sorted by author, some materials sorted by research venue (including the Nebraska Library Commission and the Omaha Public Library), and some materials organized by the name of the library being researched. Arrangement and description of this series was not completed, and approximately half of the collection has not been sorted.
The series University of Nebraska at Omaha, Arcadia Publishing comprise materials generated during writing of University of Nebraska at Omaha (2007) by Oliver B. Pollak and Les Valentine, a title in the Arcadia Publishing Campus History Series. The collection includes correspondence, newspaper articles, written notes, and rough draft photocopies. These materials predominantly date to circa 2006-2007.
The series Oliver B. Pollak Research Collection comprises materials generated by Professor Pollak during his historical research and through his association with the Missouri Valley History Conference. Also included are materials from the Winchell Lecture Series sponsored by the UNO Department of History. These materials predominantly date to circa 1998-2015.

The collection is open for research use. Manuscript collections and archival records may contain materials with sensitive or confidential information that is protected under federal or state right to privacy laws and regulations, the Nebraska Public Records Statutes (Neb. Custodial History
In 2011, Oliver Pollak contacted Les Valentine, University Archivist, to donate the Fifty Years of Teaching History at the University of Omaha, 1908-1957, research notes to the University Archives.
In November 2015, Oliver Pollak transferred his materials related to the book University of Nebraska at Omaha, published in 2007 by Arcadia Publishing as part of their Campus History Series, to the University Archives. Professor Pollak used these materials to provide captions for the photographs in the book.
On February 1, 2016, Oliver Pollak transferred one box (1 cubic foot) of material circa 1998-2015. These materials were gathered by Professor Pollak during his years as a UNO Professor of History and from his research on a variety of historical topics.
