Walter and Anna McKee Halsey Papers

 Collection
Identifier: UNO-0013

Scope and Contents

The Walter and Anna McKee Halsey Collection comprises correspondence of Reverend Walter N. Halsey, his wife Anna Mary McKee Halsey, and their descendants, along with photographs, artifacts, and ephemera. Most of the letters were written by Anna McKee Halsey. Anna McKee's correspondence with her parents and siblings about her experiences as a missionary in New Mexico covers the time period 1884-1885. In 1908, sponsored by the Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Omaha, Dr. Walter Halsey and Dr. Daniel E. Jenkins founded the University of Omaha (which became the Municipal University of Omaha in 1931 and the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1968). Correspondence covers the time period of the University of Omaha's founding and Dr. Halsey's term as the university's first Dean of Faculty, 1908-1918. Correspondence after 1948 relates to the Halsey descendants' genealogical research on the family.
