Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The UNO International Programs Records comprise the print files of the University of Nebraska at Omaha International Studies and Programs unit. The material appears to date mostly from 1970-1990. The collection includes correspondence, trip reports, project reports, project proposals, forms, grant information, committee records, study abroad information, scholarship information, foreign government documents, newsletters, photographs, slides, and negatives. This collection has not yet been further arranged and described.



The records of UNO’s International Studies and Programs includes material from its Center for Afghanistan Studies. This series includes correspondence, program proposals and reports (mostly to USAID) such as the Education Support Sector Project, photographs and slides of Afghan refugees in Pakistan from the 1980s, and other material.



New material added 2015-02-03: Accession includes a variety of clothing (late 1990s-mid-2000s), a few photographs, two VHS tapes, and miscellaneous folders containing committee information. The photographs related to Shizuoka. The clothing includes collared pullovers and tee shirts from the unit. The 2 VHS videotapes are UNO Cafe Internationale and a UNO Korean student recruitment tape. The newsletters include The International Observer and ILUNO Newsletter. Finally, the miscellaneous folders include: Faculty/Staff Travel Survey; UNO Enhance Diversity Committee; 1% for Art Committee; Indirect Cost Committee; Grants Advisory Council; Departmental Liaison Committee; Honors and Awards Committee; Amideast; and UNO Around the World Committee.



New material added 2016-02-03: This accession primarily composed of file folders pertaining to a variety of subjects, including Afghanistan Studies, foreign student exchanges, UNO Arts & Sciences Hall renovation, foreign travel, academic conferences, and departmental meetings. Also included are a variety of spiral-bound International Studies and Programs reports as well as relevant news clippings. This material dates to circa 1977-2005.



New material added 2016-08-30: This accession includes a variety of subjects, including academic conferences, foreign travel, and the Center for Afghanistan Studies. This material dates to circa 2007-2015.



New material added 2016-09-12: This accession is from the office of Thomas Gouttierre, retired Dean of UNO International Studies and Programs. These materials include correspondence with UNO's sister schools, student applications and files for the program, UNO administrative projects, and many other miscellaneous papers. Dean Gouttierre worked with the Omaha Rotary and the Fulbright Scholarship committee, and corresponded with the White House about the state of the Afghanistan refugees in the 1980's. In addition to the assorted files, there are also a variety of media. There is a photograph from a past student that says, "To the man who introduced me to foreign travel." Included is also a small flag from the Rotary Club of Ukraine and a binder of slides, with some slides also outside of the binder. There are various CD's, including a recording from the UNO music department, a language learning CD, a mix CD, and several more.



New material added 2016-11-21 and 2016-12-16: Correspondence with institutions and students concerning the UNO Intensive Language Program (ILUNO), covering the period from about 1979 through 2000. Materials include correspondence, VHS tapes, data CDs, and publicity materials.



New material added 2017-08-03: Primarily correspondence, photographs, and publicity materials relating to ILUNO students within UNO International Studies and Programs. Two photo albums and a few VHS tapes document social activities for UNO ILUNO students.



New material added 2017-03-28: The addition to the Center for Afghanistan Studies series includes material about President Hamid Karzai’s visit to Nebraska and UNO, news clippings, and reports received by the center.

The collection is open for research use. Manuscript collections and archival records may contain materials with sensitive or confidential information that is protected under federal or state right to privacy laws and regulations, the Nebraska Public Records Statutes (Neb. Rev. Stat. §§ 84-712 through 84-712.09), and other relevant regulations. Confidential material may include, but is not limited to, educational, medical, and personnel records. Researchers are advised that the disclosure of certain information pertaining to identifiable living individuals represented in this collection without the consent of those individuals may have legal ramifications (e.g., a cause of action under common law for invasion of privacy may arise if facts concerning an individual's private life are published that would be deemed highly offensive to a reasonable person) for which the University of Nebraska Omaha assumes no responsibility.
