Scope and Contents

The photo album contains photographs documenting the experiences of Afghan freedom fighters as well as a small number of images of refugees. The first section of photographs in the photo album is titled "Images of War" with photos taken by Sayed Ehsanullah in Nangarhar in 1987. The title page indicates Ehsanullah was a student of American photographer and author Bruce Richardson. Weapons identified on the title page include PR-D machine gun, SA-7, shoulder-air missile, RPG7, and AK47. The photos show men and at least one boy in the countryside with the weapons and vehicles. The second section in the photo album are photographs taken by Sayed Noorulhaq Husseini with the note that they are "Trainee," except where noted. The location is the Shahgai Training camp at the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan were the commander was Brigadier General Rahmatullah Safi (Mahaz). Each photo in this section of the album contains a printed caption identifying weapons training, dates, and some of the people. The photos of people include those who have been injured Also in the back of the photo album is a small number of photographs, some with information written on the reverse that appear to have been taken in the 1970s.

Donated by Bruce Richardson. The custodial history of the photo album is not documented at the time of accessioning. Collection was received prior to 2014 and stored in a filing cabinet with other archival collections.
