Scope and Contents

The personal papers series of the Hagel Archives contains personal material related to Chuck Hagel and covering his life through his time as Secretary of Defense, which ended in 2015. The series is housed in 36 boxes, including oversized material. The bulk of the series is the 22 boxes containing his personal correspondence. The Personal Papers, Miscellaneous folders starting with box 1 are chronologically arranged and contain many pre-U.S. Senate records of Hagel's life. Other prominent sub-series are family, board positions, memberships, and book files. Most of the material is paper based. Personal photographs are in the Photographs series of Hagel Archives, and commemorative objects are in the Artifacts series. Additional description is found under each subseries.
