Scope and Contents
This volume contains Sam Fried's autobiography, told with photographs, letters, passports, maps, travel documents, citizenship documents, news articles, patent documents, writings about Fried, and writing by Fried. The scrapbook includes a mix of original documents and reproductions. Several early documents are in Czech. The majority of the documents are in English.
The first part of this volume covers his childhood in Mukacevo, Czechosolovakia (present day Mukacheve, Ukraine); his internment in Auschwitz-Birkenau during World War II; his emigration to the United States and 1955 Certificate of Naturalization; his patent documents for an automatic engine starter he invented; his other business ventures; his involvement in the Beth El Synagogue and the Jewish Community Center in Omaha; Holocaust education efforts; floor plans to the houses he lived in; information about his marriage to Frances Robinson; the text of a speech he delivered at the Nebraska state capitol in 2006; and other documents relating to his life and work.
The second part of this volume is a compilation of speeches, poems, and writings by Sam Fried and his family, including birthday cards from his children.

The collection is open for research use. The family has opted to retain copyright.
Any request for a non-educational or commercial usage of the Donated Materials shall be submitted in writing to the Donors and shall require the written approval of the majority of the Donors or any successor to a Donor appointed by the Donor. In the event that any of the Donors or their successors shall fail to appoint a successor, then any request for a non-educational or commercial usage shall require the majority consent of the remaining Donors or their successors.
