Scope and Contents

The oral history interview of Schuyler Houser concerning conditions on the Santee Indian Reservation located in Santee, Knox County, Nebraska was conducted by UNO student Eugene Atkinson on November 12, 1979. Houser shared information concerning the short-term and long-term struggles with community health on the Santee Indian Reservation. He also detailed the U.S. government investment in Indian Reservations during the late 1960s and early 1970s. He compared the Pine Ridge, an Oglala Lakota Native American reservation in South Dakota, and the Santee Indian Reservation in terms of intra-tribal politics.
