Grants, 1997 - 2008
Scope and Contents
Grant Files document the ways in which Hagel's office assisted constituents and organizations in Nebraska with locating, obtaining, and celebrating grant work. Grant Files are divided into 3 subseries: Looking for Funding, Grant Work, and Grant Announcements.
The first, Looking for Funding, consists of constituents contacting the Senator's office to ask for help locating sources of funding for various projects and business ventures.
The second subseries is Grant Work. When applying for grants it is not uncommon to ask a respected government official to write a letter of support for the grant. This subseries includes the requests for support, copies of the grant proposal in some cases, and the work of Hagel staff in drafting a letter for Senator Hagel to sign.
The third subseries is Grant Announcements. When federal departments and independent agencies awarded grants, they alerted the Senator’s office. Announcements for grants issued to persons or agencies and businesses in Nebraska were often sent to the Senator’s office whether or not he sent a recommendation letter or was otherwise personally involved in the process. In cases where the Senator did send a letter recommending the successful grant, the Hagel office would sometimes issue a celebratory press release.
