Happy Hollow: Omaha's most desirable residence district where one look means a lot [brochure], circa 1925-1930, 2019-02-07
Scope and Contents
Happy Hollow development brochure, titled "Happy Hollow: Omaha's most desirable residence district where one look means a lot," published by George and Company and T.H. Maenner Co. This undated brochure includes a map of the Happy Hollow district of Omaha, showing which lots had been sold and which were still available at the time the brochure was printed. The map is bounded by J. E. George Blvd. on the west, Happy Hollow Blvd. on the east, Western Ave. on the north, and Underwood Ave. on the south. The map was drafted by Rohrbough Engineering Company. Lots sold for $5,000-$10,000 and were restricted to single-family residences. The brochure outlined restrictions regarding the construction and maintenance of the properties, including details relating to garages, basements, driveways, telephone and electric light poles, fuel tanks, garbage receptacles, and animals (only cats, dogs, and riding horses were permitted). Based on the history of the area and of the companies who printed the brochure, the date of this brochure is roughly estimated to be most likely mid-to-late 1920s, potentially into the early 1930s.
