Butch Addleman Ephemera, circa 1980-2000
Scope and Contents
The collection of ephemera collected by Butch Addleman includes an address book, lighters, matchbooks, pens, a news clipping about the June 1985 gay rights march in downtown Omaha, a list of local LGBT businesses and news, stickers, and other material documenting events, restaurants, bars, and other venues from approximately the early 1980s through the early 2000s. The buttons in the collection relate to the NAMES Project AIDS Quilt. Local businesses and organizations include the Office Bar, the Diamond Bar, Gilligan’s Pub, Joy, Chaplin’s / The Hollywood, Gnomes, and MCC (Metropolitan Community Church) of Omaha. LGBT rights advocacy items include a pen reading “Stop AIDS / Keep the promise,” a bumper sticker reading “how dare you presume I’m heterosexual!” a window cling reading “out is in,” and a window cling reading “we are people you know and like!” A VHS videotape in the project contains the opening ceremony from the 1995 display of the AIDS quilt in Omaha.

The collection is open for research use. Manuscript collections and archival records may contain materials with sensitive or confidential information that is protected under federal or state right to privacy laws and regulations, the Nebraska Public Records Statutes (Neb. Rev. Stat. §§ 84-712 through 84-712.09), and other relevant regulations. Confidential material may include, but is not limited to, educational, medical, and personnel records. Researchers are advised that the disclosure of certain information pertaining to identifiable living individuals represented in this collection without the consent of those individuals may have legal ramifications (e.g., a cause of action under common law for invasion of privacy may arise if facts concerning an individual's private life are published that would be deemed highly offensive to a reasonable person) for which the University of Nebraska Omaha assumes no responsibility.

Custodial History
The poster was displayed in an Omaha bar that was promoting a display of the Names Project AIDS Memorial Quilt. After a portion of the quilt was displayed in Omaha and the display was taken down, the items were given to the donor, O.D. "Butch" Addleman. The donor collected the other ephemera from various sources. Donor gave most of the ephemera to Terry Sweeney to transfer to the archives. Materials were received by the archives on 9/19/2016 and 10/13/2016.
