George Barger was chair of sociology (1967-1989, retired) at the University of Omaha at Nebraska. Barger was raised in Green Valley, Missouri. He received a Bachelors and Masters from Butler University and a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri. During WWII, he was stationed in Europe with the Eighth Air Force and flew 33 missions as a B-24 bombardier. As an ordained minister, he served as pastor of the Disciples of Christ Church for 18 years.
