Menard, Orville D.
Biography
Orville Menard (April 4, 1933-January 10, 2014) graduated from the University of Omaha (1955) and the University of Nebraska (MA 1961, Ph.D. 1964). He was a Professor of Political Science at OU/University of Nebraska at Omaha from 1964 until his retirement in the spring of 1998. Professor Menard held the Ralph Wardle Diamond Professorship in the College of Arts & Sciences. Professor Menard was a United States Department of State Senior Faculty Fellow (1967) and the recipient of the UNO Outstanding Teacher Award (1971) and Chancellor's Medal (1988). He was the author of River City Empire: Tom Dennison's Omaha (2013). From 1990 to 1996, he served as president of Pi Gamma Mu, the International Honor Society in Social Science. Professor Menard's teaching and research interests included comparative politics of Western Europe, France, civil relations, and comparative local governments. Orville Menard was a very popular instructor and researched and published extensively on the political history of Omaha and Nebraska. He passed away in January of 2014.
