Pound, Louise, 1872-1958



Louise Pound was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, June 30, 1872. She earned a B.A. in 1892 and a M.A. in 1895 from the University of Nebraska. She matriculated at Heidelberg University where she received her Doctor of Philosophy in 1900. Upon her return to Nebraska, Pound taught in the English Department at the University of Nebraska, and did not retire from teaching until 1945. Pound died in Lincoln on June 28, 1958.

Scope and Contents The Pound materials include selected copies of correspondence, most of which are photocopies. The only original correspondence is a single letter written by Pound to "Mr. Filley" on December 4, 1949 and an additional two letters sent to Pound from John Ferguson. In one letter dated April 24, 1923, he thanks her for sending a copy of Poetic Origins and asks her to accept a copy of a volume by David Gray. In the second letter, dated June 2, 1923, Ferguson asks her to accept a copy of his work...
