Born March 25, 1930 in Hagaman, New York, Roger D. Uhlinger earned a BS in chemistry from the University of Rhode Island (1954) and MS (1957) and Ph.D. (1962) in plant breeding from Cornell University, Ithaca, New York.  He became an associate professor at the University of Nebraska's West Central Research and Extension Center in North Platte in 1968.  From 1975-1989 he was chairman of the Department of Horticulture at UNL and was interim curator of the state arboretum from 1975-1977.

The collection consists of a few letters related to Roger D. Uhlinger's career at the University of Nebraska and to his research.  Biographical information, obituaries, and articles written by Uhlinger are also included.  Most of the articles relate to ornamental plants.
