Creeley, Robert, 1926-2005

American poet Robert Creeley was raised by his mother in Acton, Massachusetts and attended Harvard University in 1943 and 1946, serving in the American Field Service in Burma and India during the interim.  He received his BA from Black Mountain College (Asheville, North Carolina) in 1955 and an MA from the University of New Mexico (Albuquerque, New Mexico) in 1960.  His first book Le Fou, was published in 1952.  During his career he wrote over 60 books and taught at the Albuquerque Academy, the University of Buffalo, and Brown University.  From 1989-1991 he was New York Poet Laureate.  He was in residence with the Lannan Foundation in Marfa, Texas when he died in 2005.
