Biography
Harold "Hal" Fiske Chenowith was an early Nebraska film producer.
From an insert with the DVD copy of "Nebraska Football 1936 and 1937, "Touchdowns and Quarterbacking"" produced by Robert Chenoweth, son of Harold Chenoweth: "H.F. Chenoweth, Nebraska's first motion picture producer, faced both the Depression and the introduction of sound movies in 1932. With the help of Charlie Craig, a talented theater projectionist/engineer, a sound recorder was built and installed in a basement studio in his home in Benson. He then produced "Sponsored Newsreels" to be shown in the now sound equipped theaters throughout the Mid-West. They were "one reelers", 10 to 12 minutes long. Popular subjects like State Fairs, Cornhusking Contests, and Rodeos, would be shown - things of interest to people on farms and in small towns. Big Six football was very popular throughout the Mid-West. This DVD shows several of the first "Sponsored Newsreels", narrated by a 1925 Nebraska football player and by Harold Chenoweth himself. (Corny but Classic) Chenoweth was paid by the sponsors. It got him through the Depression."
