Bates, William



Dr. William "Will" Bates of Sioux City, Iowa, was a physician with an interest in photography. According to his great-grandchild he "loved photography and took several hundred photos of Sioux City and surrounding areas." It is believed that in addition to collecting his photographs into albums, Dr. Bates also sold some of his photos to local newspapers and for use as postcards for tourists.

Content Description The photograph album of Dr. William Bates holds 52 photos of members of the Omaha tribe, their homes, other buildings, and surrounding countryside. Also included with the album is a numbered list identifying people in the photographs. The list was created by Dr. Will Bates.
