Mudd, Mary
Mary Mudd grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, and moved to Omaha, Nebraska in 1965, to take advantage of the Women's Job Corp. Center vocational program. When the Women's Job Corp. shut down in 1969, she went to work at the University of Nebraska at Omaha as a University Division counselor. From 1977 to 1981, she served as the Director of New Student Orientation. She obtained her Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration in 1984. In 1986, she left UNO to care for her ailing mother in Atlanta. In 1988, after her mother passed away, she returned to UNO to serve as the director of the Counseling Center and the University Division. She ascended to Vice Chancellor for Student Development Services, and in 1999 became the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs. Two of her most significant accomplishments include TRIO Project Achieve, a support service for first-generation college students, and establishing the first student housing facilities on campus. She also served as consultant for the Women of Color Awards. She retired from UNO in 2003 and has remained in Omaha, working in real estate at CBSHome. For more information, see Miller, Samantha.
